PRIVACY POLICY

We collect as little as we can to run a free game: your email, your username and your password (scrambled, so even we can't read it), plus what you do in the game. We don't sell your data, we don't run ads or ad tracking, and we only use cookies that keep you signed in. You can ask us to delete your account any time.

Account details. Your email address, your username, and your password stored as a one-way hash. We also keep whether you confirmed you're 13 or older, whether you've confirmed your email, and whether you've said yes to occasional marketing emails, with when you said it.

Game activity. Your trades, orders, holdings, balances, contest entries, private contests and settings like your time zone and privacy choices. This is the game itself, so we keep it while your account exists.

Technical basics. When you sign in, sign up or reset a password, we briefly use your IP address to limit repeated attempts and stop abuse. Our hosting keeps standard server logs (like IP addresses and pages requested) for a short time for security and fixing problems. Visit counting is described under cookies below.

What you send us. If you write to support, we keep your message and our reply.

We use a small number of essential cookies: one that keeps you signed in, one that remembers which portfolio you're trading in, and one for the site's administrators. Your browser also remembers a couple of display preferences, like your last league tab and screen effects. None of these track you across other sites, and we don't use advertising cookies.

To understand how many people visit and which pages they use, we count page views ourselves without cookies: each visit gets an anonymous code made from your connection and browser plus a secret that changes every day, so we can count unique visitors per day without storing your IP address or recognizing you from one day to the next. We keep these counts for about 13 months, along with the page visited and the website that sent you (just its name, never the full link). We also use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless and doesn't identify you either.

Your username, rank and returns appear on leaderboards and your profile. You choose, separately, whether your all-time balances and your all-time holdings and trades are public; you can change both on your account page. During a contest, everyone can see each entrant's return and how much is invested, and contest holdings become visible after the contest ends. Your email address is never shown to anyone.

To run the game and your account, to send account emails (confirmations, password resets and important notices), to send occasional emails about contests and new features if you've opted in, to keep the site safe and fair, and to understand and improve the game. We don't use your data for advertising.

We don't sell or rent your personal information. We share it only with the companies that help us run the site: DigitalOcean (hosting and database), Cloudflare (domain and, if enabled, cookieless analytics) and Resend (sending email). We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect people or the site, or as part of a sale or merger of the site, in which case this policy would continue to apply to your information.

Account emails are part of having an account. Marketing emails are optional and off unless you opt in, and every one of them has a one-click unsubscribe link that works without signing in. You can also change this on your account page.

We keep your information while your account exists. You can ask us to delete your account through support or at support@tickertapesports.com, and we'll remove your personal information within 30 days, apart from anything we need to keep to prevent abuse or meet legal duties. Anonymous game records, like past trades that moved prices, may remain without your name attached.

Wherever you live, you can ask to see, correct, download or delete your personal information, and you can withdraw marketing consent at any time. Depending on where you live, you may have extra rights under laws like the GDPR or state privacy laws in the US. Contact us and we'll help.

Ticker Tape isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, contact us and we'll delete it.

Passwords are stored as one-way hashes, sign-in links expire and work once, and the site runs over HTTPS. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a password you don't use anywhere else.
